New York based First Nation intuitively blends rock, folk, noise, and snippets of pop into an organic, experimental whole. Last year the all-female trio released their homonymous debut thought Animal Collective’s record label – Paw Tracks. There is a new album coming as new songs has been played at live shows through Europe. We caught them in Lisbon, recorded their show at the ZDB Gallery and shared a nice conversation.

A estreia das nova-iorquinas First Nation no catálogo da Paw Tracks - editora dos Animal Collective - revelava uma súmula de géneros, intuitivamente misturados, onde o rock, folk e noise conviviam pacificamente com o pop. Assumidamente influenciadas pelos vizinhos e amigos Black Dice, Gang Gang Dance e Animal Collective, o trio feminino tem andando em digressão pela Europa apresentando algumas das novas canções a figurar num disco a editar em Outubro. Durante a sua passagem por Lisboa, tivemos oportunidade de falar com elas e de registar, parcialmente, o concerto realizado na ZDB.

Chat - whose real name is Charlène Juarez - started to compose late. Two years ago, after years of studying piano, she decided to write songs in her mother tongue, french. Her music claimed the attention of the portuguese netlabel Merzbau and launched, through them, an online EP. Recently, a major record label - Capitol - offered her a contract with complete artistic control. At the moment, she's in Paris preparing her first major release but first recorded a radio session just for us.

Chat - nome artístico de Charlène Juarez - começou a compor tarde. Há dois anos, depois de largos anos a estudar piano, aventurou-se na escrita de canções, sempre interpretadas na sua língua natal, o francês. A sua música chamou a atenção da netlabel portuguesa Merzbau, que disponibilizou, livremente, as suas primeiras músicas. Recentemente, Chat foi convidada a ingressar o catálogo de uma grande editora - a Capitol - estando presentemente a preparar a gravação do seu primeiro longa duração. A convite da Merzbau, a cantora e compositora realizou uma digressão nacional e aceitou gravar e falar para nós.
